Pretty Please?
Chapter Nine: End of the Beginning )

23,058 words. I just creamed all my previous Nano and Script Frenzy's. That's double Saurian's count. And almost 20 pages more than L's. That just rocks! LOL

I know, I lost again, but I'm still so excited! It's past midnight, though, and I have to work. More another day! Sleep well, everyone!

There's Going To Be A Wedding )

20,170 words! I cracked 20K!

Okay, so I'm supposed to be cracking 50K right about now. (Or atleast in about 2 days...) It's never going to happen. But I just about blew my previous attempts out of the water! (Quadrupled last year's count. And nearly doubled the first year's) So it's quite a feat! The final scene in this chapter between Arlyne and Haan actually stalled me for nearly 3 days. >,< Suddenly I couldn't figure out how to have them talk or what to do next. Solved that problem and still writing. Have to see how it goes in the next two days. Maybe I'll crack 30K before the month ends?

Damn, I thought I was at 20K by the end of this chapter, but I'm only at 18420. That's kind of depressing, actually.

Chapter Six: Merriweather Returns to Nowhere )

I passed 10,000 words yesterday and wrote 10 pages today! Since I average 300+ a page that probably equals nearly 4000 words! This morning I saw the 20K+ where we're supposed to be and thought - Well, I'm going to fail again. Now I feel like it's a real possibility to finish! It's so exciting. I'm 1 1/2 chapters behind myself typing-wise - which could be a problem in getting it registered as an official nano win. But right now I'm too stoked to care.

As long as I haven't gotten stuck. (Which I fear I might have.) See, Arlyne was supposed to meet Merriweather on her way to town. Who, aside from being Asha Lovinggood's daughter, is supposed to be match-maked with Guillermo, the blacksmith centaur. But instead she ran into the Necromancer Thanh Wojnak. And then into Haan Hondorp, the innkeeper's son. We've only seen Guillermo once, and we haven't seen Merriweather at all yet. But since Thanh and Haan are supposed to be match-maked as well, I thought - fine. They'll come first.

Instead we've gone off onto a complete tangent in which we find out Thanh's Skeleton scribe Frank is writing lovelorn poetry instead of scribing. So they throw a party for him and all undead in the area at the edge of Tekatite Swamp. Where they discover he's the long-lost love of the Tekatite Swamp Wraith Indigo. He stays in Tekatite Swamp and they travel back to Nowhere (Which is the town. Keep up, now).

And now I'm completely confused on how to proceed. Should Thanh and Haan come next? Should I switch back to Guillermo and Merriweather? I still haven't figured out how all this match-making works. Is it some kind of public ceremony? Is it a private matter?

I have decided the ghost Thanh eventually calls to find out about traveling to other worlds for Arlyne is the great-whatever grandfather of Gale, the Royal Advisor, and the best friend of Arlyne's grandmother. Due to problems in court, he won't reveal how to travel back to her homeworld until she goes to help the King. Of course, the problem is that the Prince doesn't want to marry the Princess his father wants him to. This is because he's in love with the Ogress Chieftess. (I think I mentioned that previously) Now way back in my original plot the princess had a love of her own too, which turned out to be the Prince's long lost brother. Now I'm thinking I should match her to Gale. But Gale was supposed to fall in love with Arlyne.

*sigh*

I finished the third chapter, but I've only typed up part of it so far. I definately have over 5000 words already. Here's Chapter Two. Remember, no corrections of grammar or mispellings have been corrected. That must wait until December!

Well, Arlyne might be afraid of water. But I doubt it. Legendary city? Er...don't got one of those. None of this works, really, but is amusing because:

Someone posted in the You Know You're Writing Fantasy Thread that "All royal advisors are villains." And Arlyne ends up in love with the Royal Advisor. LOL

It's also amusing that it says she speaks Ogre since one of her challenges is the fact that Prince Deshawn is in love with the Ogress Chieftess and not the Princess of the other kingdom his father wants him to marry.

A Shocking Plot
Synopsis: Matchmaker, Matchmaker

Arlyne Pennig had just been out having fun at a fantasy convention when a family heirloom, a hotel elevator, and sheer chance landed her in a world straight from the novels and movies she adored. Thought to be a Matchmaker answering a small village's advertisement in the kingdom's newspaper, Arlyne has to find a way to solve the romantic problems of the locals. Not to mention how she got there, and how to get back home.

The last post was the prologue, so here's chapter one. Yes, I'm titling my chapters. Hey, it's fantasy! (Plus it ups my word count...)

Chapter One: A Trip to Nowhere )

I'm liking Arlyne so far. Which is good, because one of the things that stalled In Defense of the Netherlands last year was my complete inability to bond with my heroine.

A Shocking Plot
10/31/09: And so it begins....

Tanisha had always said her hobbies would get her in trouble one day. But Arlyne had tended to ignore her roommates rants. After all, all her complaints never stopped Tanisha from begging her to sew her a new evening gown to wear to dinner with her equally new boyfriend. And Arlyne didn't care how many times Tanisha called her a geek, or asked when she was going to grow out of her love of fantasy. She knew the other woman meant well. That's why they were still friends. And it wasn't as if Arlyne didn't have an average, boring working class job where she spent 40 hours or more a week with her nose to the grindstone. What she chose to do with her free time was her business.

And if that included dressing in the new fantasy-style gown she'd sewn and spending an entire weekend with fellow fantasy lovers, it never hurt anyone. Even if her latest purchases would probably end up in storage. Because she'd need those statues and pictures to decorate when she finally managed to finance a house. Arlyne loved the con circuit. It was just plain fun. And she tended to stay out of trouble, for the most part. There was that one incident...but that had been years ago.

It had been an average weekend, all and all. Until the night of the dance, when she'd found her grandmother's pin in her jewelry bag. She hadn't looked at in years, and it must have been caught with one of the necklaces she'd brought, because she didn't remember packing it. But it had matched perfectly, and it had brought up many fond memories of the old woman who'd raised her and been the one to inspire her love of fantasy. So, she'd pinned it to the gown and headed out for the evening.

A family heirloom, a hotel elevator, and her friend's infamous rant in her ears. And so it begins...

341 words, 14 minutes

4 more minutes and only 27 more words? That's sad. But, hey, I chose a plot! (Yay for the convention that ruined any chance of me getting any writing done the first day but managed to finally help me choose my plot!)

10/28/09: Oh, you say that now, She said mildly, Give it a minute to sink in. )

Edit: I added an LJ cut. Because I reread this and went - Ugh. That was terrible. It's bad romance story stuff. Did I really write it? Haha...But I posted it on the Nanowrimo forum too, so it's too late to take it back. LOL
Curiouser and Curiouser
208 words in 11 minutes. (Which is pretty slow when you think about the fact that to keep up you need to write around 1667 words a day to complete nanowrimo.)

Yes, this prompt is taken from the Nanowrimo boards. I decided to just try to write whatever and this popped out. Now I'm going to have to seriously consider this for a plot. A group of at-risk kids are sent into a the past on a spy mission to save the world? And it could be set in the future so the "thousand years" could mean plopping them into the 1940s-1950s instead of into the 1100s or whatever. Hm...

10/27/09: He'd skipped breakfast for this?

He'd skipped breakfast for this? The ragtag group in front of him looked more like poster children for an intervention group than society's best chance at saving the world. And he was supposed to train them for the mission. He wasn't sure he could train them to clean their rooms, let alone a complicated spy mission a thousand years into the past. "Alright, any questions?"

"Yes, actually-" One boy who looked like he was maybe fifteen spoke up.

"Too bad." Marcus cut him off. "You aren't here to ask questions. I tell you what to do, and you do it. I give you something to learn, and you learn it. Information is earned, not given. Any objections?" A few in the group opened their mouths, but Marcus only cut them off again. "If so, the door is right over there and you can leave at any time. Go right back to where you came from." Nobody spoke. Marcus felt a twinge as he wondered just where they had pulled the kids from that this kind of situation was preferable. He would have walked himself. "Alright. The stations over there are marked with your names. Each one has a computer. Sit down and start reading."

NANOWRIMO 2009!

Cha-cha-cha
Yes, I'm participating in another crazy year of, let's try to write a novel in a month! Despite the fact that I'll be working full time, moving to a new house, and attending an anime convention the first two days of November! Go me! LOL

The sad thing is I don't know what I'm writing. 5 days to kick off and I haven't got the slightest clue. I have tons of plots that I could write. But what one do I want to write? Or should I come up with something crazy and new instead?

(PS I really should write in this journal more often)

That's right. I did participate in Script Frenzy. Got to Page 50. But not to Page 100. Several months late, here's the plot and opening scene to it. I called it simply L. Because I bought a notebook on sale to write it in. And the notebook had an L on the front. ROFL
